As the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Yildiz Technical University, we are delighted to guide you in opening the doors to the maritime world and helping you achieve your professional dreams.
Our department was established in 1967 as the “Shipbuilding Option” within the Mechanical Engineering Department of Yildiz Technical School, and in 1982, it became an independent department, taking on its current identity. As one of Turkey’s long-established departments of naval architecture and marine engineering, the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at YTÜ continues to be a pioneer in its field, both through its academic staff and its contributions to the industry.
Our department has:

8 Associate Professors,
4 Assistant Professors, for a total of 22 faculty members,
16 research assistants,
Our education and training activities are conducted in accordance with international standards and are comprehensively supported by theoretical knowledge, hands-on courses, and our strong ties to the industry. The YTÜ Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering has trained approximately 50% of the engineers working in Turkey’s shipbuilding, yacht construction, and related industries.

Insurance and classification (Lloyd’s) organizations,
the defense industry, and public institutions.
- In addition, students who complete certain elective courses gain the authorization to work as Ocean-Going Watch Engineers on ships and have the opportunity to work at sea with high salaries.
Our department provides knowledge and expertise across a broad spectrum, ranging from ship and yacht design to the engineering of offshore structures, and from innovative solutions for the defense industry to the development of marine technologies. Our students are thoroughly prepared for the industry not only through theoretical instruction but also through practical applications in our laboratories. The awards our students win every year in the Ship and Yacht Design Competition highlight our department’s innovative and creative spirit. Additionally, through international student exchange programs such as Erasmus and Mevlana, they have the opportunity to develop a global perspective.
Our Department is located on the Yildiz Campus in Beşiktaş, in the heart of Istanbul; first-year students take their preparatory and first-year basic science courses at the Davutpaşa Campus. Starting in the second year, all courses are held at the Yildiz Campus.
