Students or graduates who have to register to the SEAMAN INFORMATION SYSTEM for reasons such as obtaining a seaman's wallet will be registered in the system if they apply to the Department with the documents below.
Required documents:

2- STCW document original and photocopy
3- Document states preparatory year is passed (pass type will be declared in writing on the photocopy of the transcript)

ATTENTION TO OUR STUDENTS AND GRADUATES WHO WISH TO WORK AS OCEAN-GOING WATCH ENGINEERS!!!
All students admitted in 2013 or later:
* are required to complete a 6-month onboard internship, a 3-month shore/workshop internship, and 10 supplementary courses.
In accordance with the STCW-Manila Convention, as of July 1, 2017, internship periods have been extended to 6 + 3 months. To qualify as an Ocean-Going Watch Engineer, “successfully complete a total of 6+3 months of approved training, consisting of 6 months of sea training aboard ships in accordance with an approved training logbook and 3 months of Workshop Skills Development Training at workshop facilities approved by the Administration in accordance with an approved training logbook.” The entire 3-month shore/workshop internship may also be completed as a shipboard internship.
According to the new GUIDELINES published by the IMO and the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications, General Directorate of Maritime and Inland Waters Regulation, the courses that our students wishing to work as Ocean-Going Watch Engineers are required to take are:
- Maritime Law
- International Maritime Conventions
- Marine Engine Operations and Maintenance
- Safety and Security at Sea 1
- Maritime Safety and Security 2
- Automated Control
- Marine Automation
- Basic Maritime Knowledge
- Analysis of Ship Systems
- Maritime English
For those admitted before 2013:
* are required to complete a 6-month shipboard internship. A 3-month shore-based/workshop internship is not required.
Detailed information can be obtained from the Ministry and Port Authorities. The Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications reserves the right to amend these regulations in accordance with the implementation guidelines of the 2010 Manila amendments to the IMO STCW Convention.

Courses, Internship and Post-Internship Exams Taken by Our Department Students to Become a Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineer
The internship service period recognition of the candidates who will participate in the Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineer Internship Commission will be carried out by the Department Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineer Internship Commission.
Candidates who will apply for an internship must first receive an acceptance letter from the relevant company and apply for an internship. Click for the required documents.

Oceangoing Watchkeeping Engineer Internship Comission
In accordance with the renewed Seafarers Training and Examination Directive, the oral evaluation of the candidates who apply for the Naval Watch Engineering Internship evaluation will be carried out by the Naval Watch Engineering Internship Commission (UVMS) in the Department.
In accordance with the directive, experts from the Istanbul Port Authority may also participate in the internship evaluation commission.
Therefore, candidates who have completed their internship and submitted their notebooks must submit their petitions containing their service information, contact information, transcripts and TR ID numbers to the Department to be sent to the Port Authority.
The internship notebook must be prepared and submitted in accordance with the following rules.
- Internship notebooks are filled out on computer.
- The notebook and its attachments are delivered online.
Preparation of internship notebooks
- Care should be taken to have photographs of the procedures performed during the internship.
- Operating diagrams and circuit drawings of machinery and equipment should also be included.
- Large-sized tables, drawings, etc. documents must be submitted as attachments to the notebook.

- Employment contract signed by a company official
- 4A Service document obtained via e-government
- Dormitory entry-exit document obtained via e-government
- Service certificate approved by company official and ship captain
- List of personnel approved by the ship captain on the dates of joining and leaving the ship
- Personnel list to be obtained from the relevant port authority for ships calling at Turkish ports, passing through the straits and staying in shipyards.

Courses Taken, Internships, and Post-Internship Exams
The Department’s Offshore Commission will handle the calculation of internship service periods for candidates participating in the Open Sea Internship Commission.
Candidates about to begin their internship must first apply to the Department with a letter of acceptance from the relevant company and two photographs, and must then proceed to the internship after receiving the “Internship Evaluation Form (STD1)” and the internship logbook prepared by the Department.

Offshore Watch Engineering Internship Committee
In accordance with the revised Seafarers’ Training and Examination Guidelines, the oral evaluation of candidates applying for the Offshore Watch Engineering Internship will be conducted by the Offshore Watch Engineering Internship Commission (UVMS) at the Department.
As required by the guidelines, experts from the Istanbul Port Authority may also participate in the internship evaluation committee.
Therefore, candidates who have completed their internship and submitted their logbooks must submit their applications—including their service records, contact information, transcripts, and Turkish ID numbers—to the Department for forwarding to the Port Authority.
The internship logbook must be prepared and submitted in accordance with the following rules.
1) Submission of internship logs: PRINTED
a) Internship logs must be filled out by hand.
b) Internship logs must also be scanned and submitted on a CD in PDF format.
c) The service certificate must be scanned and included on the CD.
2) Submission of internship logs: ONLINE
a) Internship logs must be completed electronically.
b) For ONLINE INTERNSHIP JOURNAL SUBMISSION, please refer to the instructions at the link.
Preparation of internship logs
1) Care should be taken to include photographs of the tasks performed during the internship in the internship logbook.
2) Any supplementary tables, drawings, or other documents must be submitted as attachments.
